Tax Hardship Guide

Affiliate Disclosure

Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you contact a provider through them we may earn a commission, at no cost to you. This does not influence which programs we explain or how we explain them.

In plain terms, and in the spirit of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements: Tax Hardship Guide is funded in part by affiliate commissions. Some of the outbound links on this site — specifically links to tax-relief companies — are affiliate ("sponsored") links. If you click one and later become a customer of that company, we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra.

Which programs we work with

We participate in affiliate relationships either directly with a provider or through an affiliate network. The programs and networks we use include:

This list may change as programs are added or ended.

How we mark these links

Affiliate links on this site carry the rel="sponsored nofollow" attribute and open in a new tab, so both you and search engines can tell they are paid relationships. On any page that contains an affiliate link, we also show a short disclosure like the one at the top of this page.

What the money does — and does not — buy

Commissions pay for the site. They do not buy influence over our content. No advertiser gets to write, edit, or approve our explanations. We describe IRS programs the same way whether or not a company pays us, and we routinely point out that many of these programs — installment agreements, Offers in Compromise, Currently Not Collectible status — are things you can pursue yourself, for free, directly with the IRS without hiring anyone. We are not paid more for recommending an expensive option, and we do not rank companies by commission.

Not advice

An affiliate relationship is not an endorsement that a given company is right for your situation, and nothing here is tax, legal, or financial advice. Before hiring any tax-relief firm, verify its credentials and read our honest guide to how these companies work, including the red flags to avoid.
